In this podcast episode we speak with Dave McGillivray the longtime race director at the Boston Marathon. Always picked last for sports due to being short, Dave found running at an early age. He first attempted the Boston Marathon at 17.
In this conversation you will hear what his grandfather taught him about training for Boston and what it’s like to organize the world’s oldest marathon (125 years in 2021).
Interview with Dave McGillivray
In 1978 Dave ran across the U.S. from Medford, Oregon, to his hometown of Medford, Massachusetts, covering a total distance of 3,452 miles. He finished to a standing ovation of 32,000 fans in Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox.
He has logged more than 150,000 miles, most for charity, raising millions for worthy causes. He’s completed 161 marathons, which include 48 consecutive Patriots’ Day marathons (33 run at night after his race director duties are fulfilled).
