Major congrats to our coaching client Dale Moss who finished the Disney Dopey Challenge (which included his first full marathon!). He writes,
“In anticipation of passing my 70th birthday in 2022 I decided to do something to celebrate. I signed up for the 2023 Disney World Marathon Weekend Dopey Challenge. The Challenge, for those who don’t know, is running a 5K on Thursday, a 10K on Friday, a half-marathon on Saturday, and a full marathon on Sunday during the Weekend.
I have run many 5K’s, 10K’s, and half-marathons but this would be my first full marathon.
I realized that to complete this I would need a coach. After looking around the Web and finding great reviews for MTA I contacted Coach Nicole and I was placed with Coach Kristen.
Coach Kristen is a wonder. She developed a comprehensive plan which was compatible with my somewhat unusual schedule and we covered training, nutrition, and injuries in many coach calls. Coach Kristen was super supportive and made changes to the plan as necessary when I hurt myself in one way or another (I’m really good at hurting myself).
Marathon Weekend arrived (Jan 5-8, 2023) and I went out and successfully completed the Challenge. The 5K and 10K were easy, the half-marathon was no problem. The full marathon, the day after the half, was difficult but I trusted my training, kept on trotting along, and finished with none of the expected bonk (Coach Kristen’s nutrition training really helped with that one).
I finished all the runs with times in the upper half of those running, and was pleased to be told that only 10 folks in the 70 and up age bracket completed the Challenge out of a total of over 6000 entrants.
MTA training works.” -D.C. Moss
