We’d like to give a shoutout to our client Kristen Williamson. After having a baby in 2022, she decided to go after a Boston Qualifying time. She writes,
“After having my son in December 2022, I really wanted to try to qualify for the Boston Marathon. I didn’t know if it was realistic but I wanted to try.
I ran two marathons in the fall of 2023 with the hope of qualifying. I went in to both races unsure if I was in shape to qualify and was still breastfeeding while training for both. Neither went as planned and I was feeling a bit discouraged. Both races did prove that a BQ really could be within reach.
Working with a MTA Coach
I started working with Coach Athena at the end of 2023 and it was one of the best decisions I made. Working full time and being a mom left little time for training, let alone coming up with my own training plan. When my week didn’t go as planned (which always happens during training), she helped me adjust.
I lined up for the Jack and Jill Marathon this July feeling confident a BQ was in reach and most likely a PR. The pace work Coach Athena included in my plan allowed me to “feel” what marathon pace felt like and know when I’m pushing too hard.
Due to a GPS issue, I ran the majority of the race by how I felt. It wasn’t until mile 23 that I truly knew a 6 minute PR was in reach! I finished in 3:13- a 6 min PR and a 17 min BQ 💙💛
One of the best parts of this race: being able to share it with my family! I’m incredibly thankful for Coach Athena and my family for all the support!”
